The Kano State Task Force Committee on Voter Registration Mobilisation has intensified its grassroots advocacy campaign with a strategic engagement of the leadership and members of Yan Lemo Market ahead of a planned mass voter registration mobilisation exercise scheduled for Sunday, July 5.
The advocacy visit, led by the Task Force’s Sub-Committee on Engagement with the Business Community, was aimed at enlisting the support of one of Kano’s largest commercial communities in encouraging eligible citizens to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Addressing market leaders and traders, the committee stressed that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is not only a civic responsibility but also the gateway to meaningful participation in the democratic process. Members were urged to take advantage of the remaining registration period and encourage their families, employees, customers and associates who are yet to register to do so before the deadline.
The committee emphasised that markets remain strategic centres for public enlightenment due to their daily interaction with thousands of people, making them critical partners in expanding voter registration awareness across the state.
Speaking during the engagement, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Engagement with the Business Community, Dr. Tijjani Sarki, commended the leadership of Yan Lemo Market for its warm reception and willingness to support the initiative.
He expressed confidence that the market community would play a significant role in ensuring a successful turnout during the mass mobilisation exercise, noting that collective efforts by stakeholders are essential to increasing voter registration and strengthening democratic participation.
The Kano State Task Force Committee reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining advocacy across business communities and other key sectors, with the goal of ensuring that every eligible resident of Kano State obtains a Permanent Voter Card and is empowered to participate in future elections.
The mass mobilisation campaign is expected to bring together traders, artisans, transport operators and members of the public in a renewed drive to boost participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
