The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), North West University Chapter, Comrade Muhammad Jaji, has commended the decision to rotate the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to the university’s Main Campus, describing it as a strategic initiative that enabled more members of the university community to register as voters.
Comrade Jaji made the remarks during a sensitisation meeting on the Continuous Voter Registration exercise organised by the Labour Subcommittee of the Taskforce Committee on Mobilisation of Voter Registration at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat in Kano.
He said the outreach to the university community demonstrated the Taskforce’s commitment to taking voter registration closer to the people, thereby eliminating barriers that often discourage eligible citizens from participating in the democratic process.
The SSANU chairman expressed appreciation to the Taskforce, led by Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, for adopting effective grassroots mobilisation strategies aimed at increasing citizens’ participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
According to him, the initiative has significantly enhanced awareness and encouraged university staff and other eligible members of the academic community to register and prepare to participate in future elections.
“On behalf of members of my association, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Taskforce for bringing the exercise closer to us. We also appreciate the INEC officials for their professionalism and dedication throughout the registration process,” Comrade Jaji stated.
He called on all eligible Nigerians, particularly workers and members of tertiary institutions who are yet to register, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, stressing that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remains the first step towards electing credible leaders and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
