2027: Kano ALGON Chair, Yusha’u Salisu Shun Gov Yusuf’s Powerful Reconciliation Committee
    By Abdullahi Yusuf
The reconciliation process initiated ahead of the 2027 general elections has continued to record significant progress as the committee constituted by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, commenced engagements with aspirants and stakeholders across various federal constituencies and state assembly seats in the state.
The powerful reconciliation committee, chaired by Hon. Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa with Professor Nura Yaro serving as Secretary, was established to address grievances among aspirants and strengthen unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Other members of the committee include Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zahara’u, among others.
It will be recalled that Governor Yusuf had earlier directed all aspirants seeking elective positions under the APC platform to return to their constituencies, consult widely with stakeholders, and work towards producing consensus candidates as part of the first phase of the reconciliation exercise.
As part of its ongoing assignment, the committee invited stakeholders and aspirants from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, one of the constituencies currently attracting public attention due to the political rivalry between the incumbent lawmaker, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and House of Representatives aspirant, Salisu Yusha’u.
Stakeholders from the constituency had earlier endorsed Hon. Doguwa to contest the 2027 election under the APC platform, a position said to have been accepted by Governor Yusuf.
However, despite the importance attached to the reconciliation process, the Chairperson of Tudun-Wada Local Government and Kano State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, alongside her husband, Salisu Yusha’u, failed to honour the invitation extended to them by the reconciliation committee.
Meanwhile, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa attended and participated in the reconciliation meeting held at the Kano State Government House.
Confirming the development, the Secretary of the Committee, Professor Nura Yaro D-Tofa, alongside Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai, stated that both Hajiya Sa’adatu and Salisu Yusha’u were absent from the meeting.
They noted that the reconciliation exercise remains ongoing and has so far covered more than seven federal constituencies and 13 state assembly constituencies across Kano State.
According to them, the process has been progressing smoothly, with the committee optimistic of concluding the assignment successfully within the shortest possible time.
Political observers have continued to express concern over the absence of Hajiya Sa’adatu and Salisu Yusha’u despite Governor Yusuf’s directive for all aspirants and stakeholders to participate fully in the reconciliation process.
Observers believe the development may be interpreted as a lack of commitment to the peace and unity efforts within the APC and could send negative political signals ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reconciliation committee, however, reiterated its commitment to ensuring unity, cooperation, and collective success for the APC as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
