The Kano State Sports Commission has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Nigerian football administrator, Ibrahim Galadima, who passed away at the age of 78 after a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued on Saturday, by it’s Public Relations Officer, Zulfat Abubakar Rano, the Commission described his death as a monumental loss not only to Kano State but also to the entire Nigerian sporting community, where he left an enduring legacy of service and leadership.
Galadima was widely regarded as a pillar in sports administration, having begun his career as Chairman of the Kano State Football Association in the late 1970s. His commitment and leadership saw him rise through the ranks, serving as Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council between 1981 and 1983, before his appointment into the caretaker committee of the National Sports Commission in 1984.
He later attained national prominence when he served as Chairman of the Nigerian Football Association from 2002 to 2006, where he played a significant role in shaping football administration in the country. He also held two tenures as Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission.
Beyond sports, Galadima contributed immensely to public service in Kano State, serving as Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports, as well as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport.
Reacting to his passing, the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Murtala Musa, described the late Galadima as “a father figure, mentor and icon whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.”

The Commission extended its condolences to his family and the wider sporting community, praying for the repose of his soul and for Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
