“No Fear, No Pressure: Gov Yusuf’s Move Is Strategic, Not Desperate”-Waiya

The Kano State Government has strongly refuted claims by a former Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defected out of fear of being denied a second-term ticket under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the allegation as “false, baseless, and politically motivated,” accusing the former commissioner of attempting to mislead the public.
Waiya said the governor’s political realignment was a deliberate and strategic decision taken in the interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development of Kano State, rather than any form of political desperation.
“The assertion that the governor acted out of fear is completely unfounded and does not reflect the true situation,” he said. “This move is driven by foresight and the need to consolidate development gains, strengthen collaboration, and ensure inclusive governance.”
He added that reducing the decision to a matter of political survival ignores the governor’s strong grassroots support and track record in delivering on campaign promises.
The commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to its “Kano First” agenda, which he said prioritizes the welfare of citizens, infrastructural development, economic growth, and social stability.
Waiya urged residents of the state to disregard the remarks attributed to Sagagi, insisting that they were aimed at distorting facts and distracting the government from its development efforts.
“The Kano State Government remains focused and will not be distracted by baseless claims or political noise,” he stated.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continued progress of the state.
