The Kano State Hisbah Board has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that it arrested a Local Government Chairman alongside an associate in a hotel, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Board said the report was fabricated to tarnish its image, as well as that of Islam, Muslims, and the people of Kano State.
According to the statement, the actual incident involved a raid on Stephrica Guest Palace Ltd., located in the Kureken Sani area of Kumbotso Local Government Area, following complaints from residents over alleged immoral activities at the facility.
The operation, led by the Chief Superintendent of Hisbah, Hafizu Garba Adakawa, resulted in the arrest of 21 individuals comprising 10 males and 11 females, aged between 15 and 35.
The Board further disclosed that the hotel manager, Chijioke Nweke, a staff member, and the owner, Asuzu Jeffrey, were also apprehended during the raid. They were subsequently arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 5 in Gyadi-Gyadi.
Investigations revealed that the hotel was operating without the necessary official approval.
The court sentenced the trio to one year imprisonment each or an option of a ₦100,000 fine, while the facility was ordered shut down. In addition, 14 other offenders were handed three-month jail terms each or given the option of paying a ₦30,000 fine.
Reaffirming its stance, the Hisbah Board said it remains committed to curbing immoral behaviour and misconduct across the state. It also urged parents and guardians to closely monitor and guide their children to promote moral discipline in society.
