A Public Affairs Analyst, Alhaji Mamoud K. Hassan, has urged Abba Kabir Yusuf and other relevant governors in the North-West to vigorously pursue the implementation of the approved ₦334 billion Kano–Kongolom road project, describing it as a major infrastructure initiative with significant economic benefits.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Tuesday, Hassan said the project, when completed, would greatly enhance trade, transportation and agricultural activities across the region.
He explained that the 132-kilometre road would be constructed as a three-lane concrete carriageway and equipped with modern infrastructure such as solar-powered street lights and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance systems to ensure safety and efficiency along the corridor.
According to him, the road corridor links Kano with Jigawa State and Katsina State, making it a strategic route for commercial and agricultural movement within the North-West.
Hassan noted that the project would facilitate easier movement of farm produce and goods between the states, while also improving connectivity for traders and transporters who depend heavily on the route.
He therefore called on all relevant stakeholders, including federal and state authorities, contractors and monitoring agencies, to ensure that the project is executed according to standard specifications.
“The project has enormous potential for economic transformation in the North-West, but it must be implemented with diligence and strict quality control to deliver the expected benefits,” he said.
Hassan also emphasized that proper supervision and accountability would be crucial in ensuring that the project meets its design standards and serves the intended purpose of improving transportation infrastructure in the region.
It would be recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently welcomed the approval of the project by the Federal Executive Council, describing the decision as a historic breakthrough for the state.
The governor said the project would significantly transform the state’s road network and strengthen Kano’s position as a major commercial hub in northern Nigeria.
He also observed that the project would create employment opportunities, reduce travel time and boost economic activities for farmers, traders and transporters across the region.
