The Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development has continued its 2026 Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) vaccination campaign in Kumbotso Local Government Area, marking the second day of the statewide exercise aimed at eliminating the deadly cattle disease.

The vaccination exercise, which forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen animal health services, is being supported technically and logistically by development partners working with the state government to curb the spread of CBPP

The Honourable Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Aliyu Isah Aliyu, was represented at the event by the Deputy Director of Animal Health and Reproduction, Dr. Abdulrashid, who commended residents of Kumbotso Local Government Area for their active participation.
He emphasized that community cooperation is critical to the success of the free vaccination campaign, noting that livestock owners have shown commitment by presenting their animals for immunization.
The campaign is being implemented in collaboration with the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) and the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS), partnerships aimed at improving livestock productivity and strengthening disease control mechanisms across the state.
According to officials, the intervention aligns with the vision of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to enhance animal health, safeguard farmers’ livelihoods, and promote food security through a more resilient livestock sector.
A statement signed by the public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Hajiya Halima Gadanya, says to ensure smooth and effective coverage, Kumbotso was divided into three operational zones , Kumbotso city, Yan Kusa, and Panshekara , enabling vaccination teams to reach more livestock owners efficiently.
State authorities reaffirmed that the CBPP vaccination exercise will extend to all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State, bringing the initiative closer to farmers and pastoral communities statewide.
Officials described the cooperation of Kumbotso residents as instrumental to the smooth implementation of the second day of the campaign, expressing optimism that the statewide rollout will significantly reduce the prevalence of CBPP in Kano.
