The leadership of the 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign has called on citizens, traditional institutions, and civil society organizations to embrace community service as a vital tool for peacebuilding, social cohesion, and sustainable development across Nigeria.
Speaking after a series of strategic engagements with stakeholders, the Campaign Chairman, Ambassador Zubairu Dalhatu Malami, emphasized that community service is not only an act of charity but a collective responsibility that strengthens trust, reduces vulnerability, and empowers communities to resist insecurity and social fragmentation.
> “When communities take ownership of their development through service, they build resilience against violence, unemployment, and marginalization. Community service is the heartbeat of peace,” Ambassador Malami stated.
The campaign highlighted that insecurity, youth vulnerability, and social dislocation can be mitigated when individuals and groups actively contribute to their communities through volunteerism, mentorship, environmental care, and grassroots initiatives.
The Peace Campaign team urged Nigerians to see community service as a national duty, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16 and 17, which focus on peace, justice, strong institutions, and partnerships.
The campaign further announced that upcoming activities will include community cleanup drives in selected states and youth mentorship programs led by volunteers, as well as women’s empowerment workshops supported by grassroots networks. More activities will include Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) sensitization sessions in partnership with traditional institutions.
The 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign is implemented in partnership with the Africa Peace Reform Initiative (APRI), Global Peace Chain, AUDA‑NEPAD Nigeria, Zamkah Technologies Limited, and the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).
The campaign calls on government agencies, philanthropists, NGOs, and individuals to join hands in promoting community service as a pathway to peace and progress.
