DSP Barau Jibrin Disburses Scholarships To 4,183 Students Of FCE Bichi

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I.Jibrin has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to education by disbursing scholarships to 4,183 students from Kano North Senatorial District studying at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi.

The beneficiaries, comprising male and female students pursuing the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Degree (B.Ed) programmes, received N20,000 and N50,000, respectively.

The scholarship disbursement exercise was carried out by a delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate, Prof.Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, at the college Theatre Hall on Wednesday.

A statement by the Special Adviser to Senator Barau on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, said the Provost of the institution, Dr Kabiru Musa Bichi, represented by the Deputy Provost, Dr Bashir Sabo Abubakar, alongside members of the institution’s management, received Senator Barau’s delegation.

Speaking during the event, Prof. Abdallah said the intervention was a continuation of Senator Barau’s sustained investment in education across Kano North and beyond.

“We are here, like every year, to bring support and scholarships to students who are from Kano North Senatorial District. The scholarship covers both NCE and Degree students, with N20,000 for NCE and N50,000 for Degree students,” he said.

He said that similar interventions had been extended to institutions such as Bayero University Kano (BUK), Northwest University, and other Colleges of Education.

He added that Senator Barau had executed several projects at FCE (Technical) Bichi, including the construction of academic blocks, the provision of solar streetlights, reading halls, and other critical infrastructure.

In his remarks, the Deputy Provost of the College, Dr Bashir Sabo Abubakar, described the intervention as life-changing, noting that the institution had benefited from the scholarship scheme consistently over the past three years.

“Every year, the number of beneficiaries keeps increasing. This clearly shows that the Deputy President of the Senate places education as a top priority. He is currently constructing our administrative block at the permanent site at a multibillion-naira cost and has provided solar streetlights at both the temporary and permanent sites, significantly improving security,” Abubakar said.

He urged the students to make judicious use of the funds, particularly for registration and academic purposes, while conveying the gratitude of the college’s management and students to the Deputy President of the Senate.

The Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the Deputy President of the Senate, Hajiya Yardada Maikano Bichi, said that about 60 per cent of the beneficiaries were women, stressing that educating a woman is equivalent to educating an entire society.

A former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Professor Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, also commended the Deputy President of the Senate for the gesture.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Senator Barau for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful support to their academic journey.

“Senator Barau is an extraordinary leader who champions the transformation of education in Kano. He leads by example. We cannot thank him enough. May Almighty Allah reward him and continue to see him through his endeavours,” one of the beneficiaries, Khadija Abdullahi, said.
