A Global Peace Ambassador, Zubairu Dalhatu Malami, has strongly condemned the deadly explosion that occurred at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing it as a senseless and heinous attack on innocent civilians.
The explosion, which reportedly took place on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, was allegedly carried out by a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber and claimed several lives while leaving dozens of people injured. The incident cast a dark shadow over the Christmas season, a period traditionally marked by peace, reflection, and unity.
In a press release issued in Abuja on Thursday, Malami expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked Almighty Allah to grant comfort and strength to their loved ones. He also wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The Global Peace Ambassador commended the swift and coordinated response of the Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, other security agencies, the Borno State Government, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for promptly securing the area and preventing further casualties.
Malami described the attack as a painful reminder of the persistent security challenges in the North-East and stressed the urgent need to strengthen community resilience, early warning mechanisms, and inclusive peacebuilding initiatives across Northern Nigeria.
Reaffirming his commitment to peace advocacy, he pledged to continue working with traditional leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and government institutions to promote dialogue, healing, and sustainable peace.
He also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, united, and security conscious during the festive season, calling on citizens to reject fear and hatred and instead embrace compassion, tolerance, and collective action against violence.
“Peace is not just the absence of war; it is the presence of justice, dignity, and opportunity for all,” Malami stated.
