The Non-Formal Development for Education and Health Initiatives (NDEHI) has successfully conducted a capacity-building workshop on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), safeguarding, and positive masculinity at Bayero University Kano (BUK), bringing together participants from academia, civil society, and community-based organisations.

The workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills for preventing and responding to GBV while promoting safe, inclusive, and accountable environments within institutions and communities. Key sessions focused on safeguarding principles, survivor-centred responses, institutional responsibilities, and the role of positive masculinity in challenging harmful social norms and fostering respectful, equitable relationships.

Facilitated by experienced resource persons, the engagement featured interactive presentations, group discussions, and practical reflections that encouraged open dialogue and shared learning. Participants explored real-life scenarios and best practices for addressing GBV, with emphasis on prevention, accountability, and protection of vulnerable groups.

Speaking at the event, organisers highlighted the importance of equipping stakeholders with evidence-based approaches that promote gender equity and strengthen institutional safeguards. Participants were encouraged to serve as change agents, applying the knowledge gained to promote safer spaces and responsive systems within their respective institutions and communities.

The initiative underscores NDEHI’s continued commitment to advancing inclusive education, health, protection, and social development through strategic partnerships and capacity-building interventions.
