The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Jigawa State Council has released key resolutions following its Second Congress held on Thursday at the Council Secretariat in Dutse.
In the communiqué signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Isma’ila Ibrahim Dutse, and the Acting Secretary, Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo, the Congress commended Governor Umar A. Namadi for accepting to host the Union’s National Executive Council meeting, describing the gesture as a demonstration of his commitment to media development and good governance.
The Congress also expressed deep appreciation to the Dan Isan Dutse, Alhaji Zaharaddeen Bashir Sunusi, for voluntarily renovating the NUJ ICT Unit—an intervention the Union says reflects his dedication to journalists’ welfare.
The meeting acknowledged the State Government’s approval for the installation of a modern solar power system at the Secretariat, aimed at improving efficiency and creating a better working environment.
Members also praised the leadership of the Council under Comrade Isma’ila Ibrahim Dutse and encouraged the State Government to sustain its support for security agencies to maintain Jigawa’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in the country.
On capacity development, the Union resolved to intensify training for practicing journalists to strengthen professionalism and ethical standards.
The Congress further passed a vote of confidence in the national leadership of the NUJ under Comrade Alhassan Yahya and congratulated Governor Namadi on his recognition as the Best Governor on Agriculture by the NUJ national leadership, as well as his investiture as Grand Patron of the Jigawa State Council.
As part of its internal strengthening efforts, the Union inaugurated a membership revalidation committee chaired by Auwal Muhammad Kazaure.
