    Reflecting On NLC, Two -Day Industrial Relations Workshop, In Kaduna

    The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has concluded a two-day Industrial Relations Workshop held at Emerald Suites, Kaduna, from November 12 to 14, 2025. The programme was supported by the Kano State Government through the Office of the Head of Civil Service and facilitated by the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Kwara State.

    Declaring the workshop open on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, highlighted the administration’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening workers’ welfare.

    Flanked by permanent commissioner one at the Pension fund Trustees Alhaji Hassan Aminu ,his delivery reflected the governor’s labour-friendly posture, combining firmness and courtesy as he addressed participants while urging full concentration.

    The technical session was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Alhaji Salisu Mustapha, supported by retired Acting Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Inuwa Idris Yakasai, with Comrade Ashiru Abdullahi providing additional coordination.

    On the labour side, the delegation was led by the NLC Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa accompanied by the Acting Secretary, Comrade Hussaini Buda. Comrade Nura Rimin Gado, popularly known as Babban Giwa, handled critical logistics throughout the programme. Also present were the TUC Chairman, Comrade Mubarak Buba Yerima, and the JNC Team Lead, Comrade Hashimu A. Sale, both of whom added depth and vibrancy to the workshop.

    Members of the State Administrative Council, SAC, in attendance included Auwalu Muhammad Yakasai, Comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko and Abdullahi Gwarzo, who ensured decorum was maintained. Comrade Ado Riruwai was also visible among SAC members.

    The NLC women’s wing, led by gender rights advocate Rabi Abdullahi and supported by Secretary Binta Ammani, brought strong representation from female workers. Comrade Maryam Minjibir, known for her calm and punctuality, also participated actively.

    The treasurer of the Civil Service Union, Hajiya, Usaina was equally in attendance.

    While space and time will not permit mention of all 50 participants, drawn from various Public and Private Sectors affiliate unions, the atmosphere of comradeship was further enriched by notable in-house comrades, including Private Sector, Chairman, Comrade Hamza Adamu, NUJ Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, and his RATTAWU counterpart, Comrade Babangida Biyamusu.

    The physically imposing Sule Aliyu fondly referred as Sule ,Dogo of JUSUN was also acknowledged for his presence.

    Resource persons were led by Dr. Raji Michael of Michael Imoudu labour institute with Alaja Bilkisu Alaya, B.M Oni Baniyi, K.M Ojediran and Salamat Abubakar contributed significantly to the knowledge sharing conversation.

    The workshop provided a relaxed but impactful learning environment, reinforcing modern approaches to labour relations.

    Participants reflected on the shift from confrontational methods to constructive dialogue, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and collaborative engagement with employers.

    Organisers and participants alike agreed that the renewed focus on harmonious labour–employer relations is essential for improved productivity and sustained peace in the workplace.

    The memories of shared knowledged knowledge and renewed commitment to better industrial relations are expected to leave a lasting mark on labour administration in Kano State.

    Climax of the workshop was distribution of certificates to participants. as they depart to their respective destinations with smiles on their faces
