NECO Insists Kano Ranks First, Best Performance State In 2025 Exams

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The National Examination Council(NECO) insists that Kano is the first best performing State that ranks first in the federation in the 2025 Council Examinations with 5.886 percent and 39,351 candidates scoring five Credits and above in both Mathematics and English.

A Newspaper report had faulted the NECO ranking, mentioning Abia as the best performing ranking State that came first in the examination, using the State Code number 001 as yardstick in their judgement, but the council described the report as incorrect and misleading.

“Kano Candidates scored 50-16 percent showing they failed as only 49.84 percent of it’s total 136.762 candidates scored at least five Credits including Mathematics and English,” the Newspaper report claimed.

However,NECO said what the Newspaper reported was an Analysis of Candidates’ performance by States not the final results of the total results and ranking of States, and that showing Abia State Code number 001 was, therefore, misleading.

An Official of the Council who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “that is why on the final performance ranking Kano with its 015 code still became first State, while Abia State with 001 became 35th in the whole country.”

Another Performance Sheet of council shows Lagos State as the best in Male Performance ranking, the first best State in the whole of the country with 43,538 Candidates registering and 43,202 sitting for the Examinations with 4.44 percent and 30,203 having five Credits and above in Mathematics and English.

And Kano on the Male Performance ranking has 62,223 registration and 61,854 sitting for the Examinations and 28,308 scoring five Credits and above in Mathematics and English with 4.100 percent.

“On Female ranking Kano becomes first with 137,338 registering and 136,762 sitting for the Examinations, thereby having 5.020 percent and Lagos becoming second with only 4.93 percent,” the official said.

He, therefore, cautioned the media against misleading the public on something of high importance such as Education.

The NECO official also appealed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to settle unpaid examinations fees from 2022 to date, amounting to N475 million.

In her remarks, the Director Kano Educational Resource Center(KERD),Hajiya Rabi Inuwa, said Governor Yusuf had before the commencement of the examinations settled over N3 billion as examinations fees.
