The UN Security Council is sharply divided over the US capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro, with some countries questioning the legality of the operation and others defending it as a response to alleged criminal conduct.
The US says it conducted a “surgical law enforcement operation” to apprehend Maduro, who was indicted on narco-terrorism charges.

However, countries like China, Russia, and Colombia have condemned the US action as a violation of international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty.
The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has expressed concern that the US operation sets a “dangerous precedent“ for global order.
