The Kebbi State House of Assembly has adopted the position of the National Assembly on the establishment of State Police Services in the country.
This followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Home Affairs and Internal Security at plenary on Wednesday, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje.
Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Garba Bena, recalled that the House at its sitting on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, received the Constitution Alteration Bill from the National Assembly seeking to provide for the establishment of State Police and committed it to the Committee for further legislative action.
He said the Committee, after a thorough scrutiny of the 26 sections of the Bill, unanimously agreed that the establishment of State Police is in the best interest of Kebbi State and the nation at large, considering the current security challenges facing the country.
Following the presentation, the House put the matter to a vote, with 20 out of the 24 members present voting in favour of the Bill, while four members were absent.
The House therefore adopted the Bill for the Establishment of State Police Services (Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 Sixth Alteration Bill, 2026), having secured the required two-thirds majority as stipulated by the Constitution.
The House also directed its Clerk to transmit its resolution to the National Assembly for further action.
