By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Kano State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) has condemned the recent disruption of the party’s Special National Convention planned to hold in Abuja, saying the action undermines the principles of democracy.

The Chairman of the party,Hon. Yusuf Ado Kibiya, made the condemnation while briefing journalists in Kano on Monday.

According to Kibiya, Abuja was the venue where the National PDP’s mini-convention was to present its presidential flag.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the disruption and blocking of access to the bearer.

“The action undermines the principles of democracy, free association, and constitutional rights that Nigeria’s political system is built upon.

“Such conduct poses a threat to the peaceful, inclusive, and competitive nature of our democracy,” he said.

The party, therefore, urged all actors to uphold the rule of law, to respect civil liberties, and to pursue political engagement through lawful, peaceful, and constructive means.

It then lamented the defection of members of the party to the APC, noting, however, that the PDP in Kano State remains “solid, cohesive, and firmly rooted in our shared values and objectives.”

“Our focus remains on delivering governance that will improve the lives of Kano people, upholding democratic norms, and building a robust party structure that can win responsibly and govern effectively.

“We commend all participants for the peaceful and orderly conduct observed during the recent party primaries.

“The PDP in Kano State emphasizes internal democracy, transparency, and respect for due process.

“Our primaries reflect the maturity and discipline that our members bring to the political arena, and they reinforce the public’s confidence in our democratic process,” the chairman added.
