The Academic Staff Union(ASUU), Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, branch has condemned what it called the illegal review of its Governing Document and the attempt to impose it on its members.

The union in a Communique issued at the end of its meeting on Monday, rejected the document in its entirety, alleging that the University’s administration had failed to comply with the laid down procedures of amending the document as enshrined in Section 21 of the KUST Amendment Law 2017. (‘A).

In the communique which was signed by the Chairman and the Secretary of the union,Dr. aliyu Yusuf Ahmad, and Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim Tukur, respectively, the group, therefore, directed its members to abstain from recognizing or using any of the said documents.

It further requested the approval of the National Executive Council of the Union for active Non-Compliance until the issue among other demands of the branch are resolved by the University’s Administration.

The union noted that it had consistently demonstrated commitment to industrial harmony and academic stability in the University, adding that this position had been strengthened by the efforts of the Kano State Government in improving staff welfare and promoting the higher education sector in the state.

“However, Congress observed with dismay the action of the University
Administration to impose the new governing documents on members that are harmful and injurious to the development of the University,” it said.

It alleged that the documents were mischievously approved without duly engaging stakeholders and without following due process laid down by section 21 of the Kano University of Science and Technology, (KUST) Amendment Law 2017, and other local and international labour
laws/conventions.

“Congress further observed that the University Governing Council
that approved the new document was not properly constituted in accordance with statute 5, section 1 of the KUST Amendment Law 2017 due to the failure of the University Administration to summon a senate meeting for election of senate representative to council.

“This is in addition to other flagrant violations of the provision of the University Law such as refusal to release audited account of the University for over three years, hold regular statutory meeting such as University senate and budget monitoring committee among others too numerous to mention, ” the communique added.
