2027:Katsina People Hail Atiku, ADC Over Intention To Remove Fuel Subsidy
By Abdullahi Yusuf
The people of Katsina State have hailed the African Democratic Congress(ADC) and its presidential candidate,Atiku Abubakar, over their intention to restore petrol subsidy if voted into power in the 2027 general elections.
This is contained in a statement signed by Abubakar Ahmed, Spokesman of Katsina State ADC governorship candidate,Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita.
The Katsina citizens, who made the commendation on a Hausa phone-in programme aired on Ray Power Radio and Television Katsina, also expressed confidence in the ability of the ADC and its presidential flagbearer to re-introduce the all-important subsidy.
Recall that the ADC presidential flagbearer had announced his intention to restore petrol subsidy in order to ease the suffering presently being faced by Nigerians as a result of its removal by the Tinubu administration,if voted into power.
During the programme which hosted Hon Surajo Aminu-Makera, a chieftain of the ADC in the state, the callers also commended the ADC and its flagbearer for keeping opposition alive and refusing to be distracted as they prepare to unseat the APC-led government at all levels.
Aminu-Makera,on his part, stated that the withdrawal fuel subsidy was hastily announced by President Tinubu during his inaugural speech on May 29,2023, which he said had since then, been inflicting untold hardships on the citizens.
According to him a critical issue such as removal of fuel subsidy needs careful study and wide consultations with critical stakeholders before any action could be taken on it.
The former General Manager of Katsina State Transport Authority, and now a leading opposition figure in the nation’s political space, also rejected President Tinubu’s response to Atiku’s remarks.
“The President ended up telling Nigerians that the 36 state governments always receive 48 per cent of accrued revenue from the subsidy removal, without telling us what his administration at the federal level is doing with its 52 per cent accrueable from the same funds.
“He should let us query our governors on how they manage our resources at the state level;he should also tell Nigerians how he manages our resources too,” he said.
On the mounting political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, Aminu-Makera said the ADC is the only opposition political party that had fielded candidates for all elective positions throughout the country, from presidential to governorship to national and state assembly positions.
On security, the ADC bigwig who recalled the recent visit to President Tinubu by Catholic priests who told him about the difficulties Nigerians are facing and how the president allegedly shielded his administration from the people, wondered how the president could solve the problems he did not believe they exist.
He, therefore, advised Nigerians to vote wisely in the forthcoming elections by voting out the APC administration and replacing it with an ADC government.
