A group,Kano State Coalition For Good Governance Advocating For The Continuity Of The Representation Of Deputy President Of The Senate,Barau Jibrin, has raised an alarm about a plot to stop his re-election in 2027.
The Chairman of the coalition, Mukhtar Tukur Gadanya, sounded the alarm while addressing journalists at the Kano NUJ press centre,on Wednesday.
According to Gadanya, the plot is being hatched by some “disgruntled elements” within Kano State and beyond.
“We wish to inform Nigerians, particularly the good people of Kano North Senatorial District and Kano State at large,of a plot by some disgruntled elements both within Kano and beyond to thwart our efforts towards the re-election of Senator Barau I.Jibrin,” he said.
He stated that the plotters are working to stop DSP Barau Jibrin’s re-election so as to deny the people of Kano North Senatorial zone and the people of the state of his quality representiion at the Senate.
“These undesirable elements are no doubt seeking to impose their will to only serve their selfish agenda of perpetuating anti-Kano interests.
“We have credible information that substantial resources have been mobilized for this effort.Nonetheless,we are confident that such efforts will fail,as Senator Barau enjoys overwhelming support from the people of Kano North,” the coalition said.
The group, therefore, expressed confidence that despite the alleged plot, the people of Kano North Senatorial District will re-elect Senator Barau Jibrin in 2027, in view of his commendable performance at the Senate.
It cited his transformation of legislative representation to people-oriented laws, impactful empowerment programmes and numerous infrastructure and human development initiatives as part of his achievements.
The coalition further outlined other accomplishments of the Deputy President of the Senate to include sponsorship of the bill for the establishment of the North-West Development Commission(NWDC), and the establishment of the Federal University of Science and Technology,Kabo.
It also mentioned the upgrading of the Federal College of Education(FCE),Kano,to Federal University of Education, facilitated by Senator Barau, and his provision of scholarships for tertiary education to indigenes of Kano State to study in Nigeria and abroad.
