Yobe Commissioner Lauds Gov Yusuf’s Giant Strides In Education Sector

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Yobe State, Prof. Mohammed Bello Kawuwa,has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for his giant strides in the education sector in the last three years.

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Affairs Unit, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Teachnology, Wudil, Malam Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi.

Abdullahi said Prof.Kawuwa made the commendation on Tuesday when he led a delgation on a fact finding mission to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology,Wudil.

Kawuwa,who led a Fact Finding Committee On Review of Yobe State University Academic Staff Renumerations, specifically expressed delight at Governor Yusuf’s resolve to declare state of emergency on education in the state.

“To make a provision of about 30 per cent for the education sector in the state budget which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, is a clear indication of Governor Yusuf’s utmost commitment to reinvigorate the education sector in Kano State,” the commissioner said.

He also lauded the Governor for his unflinching support and concern to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology,Wudil,and other tertiary institutions in the state, especially on prompt payment of salaries, staff renumerations and other allowances.

He said the Committee was set up by the Yobe State Government to review the State University Academic Staff Renumeration, and as such, it resolved to contact Aliko Dangote University, noting that: “we come to see your funding mechanism and the sustainability plans being put in place.”

“We are also on a mission to discuss how you manage renumerations of Academic staff of Yobe state University,” Kawuwa said.

He noted that Yobe State Government had been doing all it could to ensure that it meets the renumerations and entitlements of the staff of its state university.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai,said relationship between the two institutions started way back in 2007 when ADUSTECH admitted and accomodated all students of Yobe State University, following its closure.

Prof.Yakasai explained that the entire component of monthly salaries and overheads are shouldered by the Kano State Government, while it had also settled almost all inherited staff liabilities.

He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had prioritized education, thereby making a budgetary provision of 30 per cent for the education sector, exceeding even the UNESCO provision.

Later, the Fact Finding Committee engaged the University management and relevant sections of the University in technical issues regarding various aspects of staff renumerations.

The Commissioner thanked the Vice Chancellor for supplying all the necessary information regarding the Committee’s terms of reference.
