The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, fipma, mnim, on Thursday paid a visit to Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba and Senior Counsellor to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at his residence in Kwalli, within the Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Commissioner arrived at Dan’agundi’s residence in the morning in a convoy of official vehicles, where he held a private meeting with the traditional title holder. The details of the discussion were not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.

Although the purpose of the visit was not publicly disclosed, the meeting came amid renewed tension surrounding the Kano Emirate dispute and recent developments involving the Kano traditional institution.

Efforts by journalists to obtain clarification from CP Bakori on the purpose of the visit were unsuccessful, as the Commissioner declined to comment on the matter. Dan’agundi also did not publicly disclose the reason for the meeting.

The development also comes shortly after a closed-door meeting between Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi in Abuja. The specific issues discussed during that meeting were not publicly disclosed.

Meanwhile, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is expected to attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony in Yakasai, Kano, today.

The monarch is expected to depart from his residence at Nasarawa at about 4:00 p.m. and travel to the venue by vehicle.

There had earlier been expectations among members of the public that the Emir might proceed to the event on horseback. However, the planned horse-riding procession was reportedly shelved following security concerns and an appeal by CP Bakori.

The Commissioner had earlier engaged the Emir and pleaded with him to shelve the planned horse-riding procession in the interest of peace and public safety.
