The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has officially commenced activities marking its 2025 Press Week with a special prayer session held at the Union’s Secretariat on Friday.

The session, led by renowned Islamic cleric, Malam Gwani Nasir, was attended by the Council Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Dederi, Vice Chairman, Mustapha Gambo, and a large turnout of union members.

Speaking after the prayer session, Comrade Dederi said the event was organised to thank Almighty Allah for His guidance and to reflect on the resilience, sacrifices, and commitment of journalists in Kano State and Nigeria.

He urged journalists to remain steadfast in upholding the ethics of the profession, promote accurate and responsible journalism, and continuously pray for the growth of the union and the media industry.

Comrade Dederi outlined series of activities scheduled for the 2025 Press Week, including a courtesy visit to the psychiatric hospital, a novelty football match between the NUJ team and members of the Kano State House of Assembly, a capacity-building workshop, the commissioning of the Kano Online office, and an award night to honour outstanding media professionals.

The Chairman called on members of the union and the public to fully participate in the upcoming events as the Council celebrates excellence, professionalism and unity within the media community.
