Healthcare Delivery:Kano Govt Recruits 2,037 Personnel To Address Manpower Shortages
•To be deployed to hospitals, primary healthcare centres, other health institutions

As part of its efforts to address manpower shortages in healthcare facilities towards enhanced healthcare delivery,Kano State Government has recruited 2,037 health personnel to strengthen the workforce.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf distributed appointment letters to the newly-employed health personnel at a ceremony held at the Government House, on Wednesday.
The recruitment is the first phase of the government’s workforce expansion programme aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to quality medical services for the people of the state.
Governor Yusuf said during the presentation of appointment letters to the newly-recruited health personnel that the initiative was prompted by identified gaps in the health workforce, worsened by the movement of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to other institutions and locations.
He said the newly-employed personnel include: 250 medical doctors, 40 pharmacists, 250 nurses, 250 midwives, 150 senior community health extension workers, 50 junior community health extension workers and 50 epidemiologists.
The Governor also disclosed that hundreds of other health professionals across various cadres were recruited under the programme.
He said the new personnel would be deployed to hospitals, primary healthcare centres and other health institutions, particularly facilities experiencing critical shortages of health workers.
He congratulated the new appointees, describing their recruitment as a call to service.
Governor Yusuf urged them to demonstrate compassion, discipline, integrity and commitment, while ensuring that patients are treated with dignity and fairness regardless of their social status, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation or economic circumstances.
The Governor also charged the new health workers to maintain punctuality, pursue continuous professional development and ensure responsible use of public resources.
He assured them of government support to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively, stressing that they would be held accountable for providing quality healthcare services to the people.
In his remarks,the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, said selection of the new personnel was based on merit, professional qualifications and conduct.
Dr.Labaran urged the beneficiaries to demonstrate commitment, professionalism and dedication in addressing the healthcare needs of the people of the state.
