A group of aspirants on the platform of the African Democratic Congress(ADC) in Kano State have rejected the party’s primaries held recently to elect candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The agrieved aspirants announced their position while addressing a press conference in Kano on Tuesday.

They spoke through Hon. Wada Masu, saying that as par as they were concerned, there were no primary elections to select the party’s flagbearers,as the process followed was not credible.

“We called this press conference to formally express our deep concern and dissatisfaction regarding the purported primary elections said to have been conducted in Kano State for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the 21st of May, 2026.

“It is important to clearly state that on the same day the so-called primary elections were said to have taken place, all aspirants were participating in the screening exercise.

“This development alone raises serious questions about the legitimacy and transparency of the exercise claimed to have been conducted.

“In addition, the Elections Committee officially invited all aspirants on the 22nd of May, 2026 for a consensus meeting, with clear communication that if consensus failed, primary elections would subsequently be conducted.

“This directly contradicts the claim that a valid primary election had already taken place on the 21st of May, 2026.These irregularities constitute a serious threat to internal democracy, fairness, justice, and the credibility of our great party,” the aspirants said.

They, therefore, called on the National Leadership of the party, and all those concerned to quickly and immediately intervene and ensure the right thing is done by investigating the matter thoroughly and provide a fair, free, lawful, and lasting solution “in order to prevent any crisis, further disenfranchisement of lawful party members and their rights to elect and be elected in all elections.”

“Our struggle is not against any individual, but for justice, transparency, and the protection of democratic principles within our party.

“We remain law-abiding, committed party members, and we believe that fairness, and due process must prevail,” the group added.
