Senator Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila says he has implemented 102 projects and empowerment programmes across the 16 local government areas that make up the Kano South Senatorial District between 2023 and 2026.
The senator made the disclosure at a public engagement forum held in Kano, where he presented what he described as an account of his performance and efforts to fulfil the promises he made during the 2023 election campaign.
According to him, the projects covered agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, as well as empowerment programmes for women and young people.
Senator Kawu Sumaila said more than 6,000 irrigation wells and 300 boreholes had been provided, while 1,297 hectares of land had been converted to irrigation farming.
He also said 3,745 solar-powered streetlights had been installed in different parts of the senatorial district.
In education, the senator said 1,082 students had benefited from scholarships and monthly allowances, while 437 students studying health-related courses had also received financial support.
He added that 1,200 beds, mattresses and cabinets had been provided to healthcare facilities across the constituency.
Kawu Sumaila further said his office had sponsored more than 400 surgical operations at Zarewa Standard Hospital.
On infrastructure, the senator said work had resumed on a 19-kilometre dual-carriage road, while 16 projects aimed at controlling erosion and flooding had also been carried out.
He said 11 bridges and drainage channels had equally been provided to improve transportation and reduce the impact of flooding in some communities.
The senator also disclosed that 916 vehicles had been distributed through 10 different empowerment programmes designed to support members of the constituency.
Kawu Sumaila said more projects and interventions were still in the pipeline, promising continued attention to the needs of communities across Kano South.
He also called on residents of the senatorial district to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
