The Accord Party governorship candidate in Kano State for the 2027 election, Amb. Dr. Mukhtar Gashash, has unveiled a people-centred governance framework aimed at giving citizens a direct role in identifying development priorities and shaping government policies.
Gashash, in his proposed “People’s Blueprint for a Better Kano,” said his administration, if elected, would move away from a top-down approach to governance and instead work directly with communities across the state.
Under the theme, “Let the People Speak. Let the People Plan. Let Government Listen. Let Us Build Kano Together,” the candidate said every Local Government Area would be given the opportunity to develop its own development blueprint based on the needs and priorities of its residents.
He said the initiative would involve farmers, traders, women, youths, teachers, professionals, traditional leaders and other stakeholders in determining the challenges confronting their communities and proposing practical solutions.
“I will not govern Kano for the people — I will govern Kano with the people,” Gashash declared.
According to him, no individual can claim to understand the challenges of every community without listening directly to the people affected by those challenges.
He said: “The people know their problems. The people know their struggles. And the people must have a voice in shaping their future.”
Gashash also promised to make government more accessible to citizens, saying his administration would ensure that people were not afraid to approach government with their concerns, ideas and grievances.
He described government as “the people’s home”, where every citizen should be heard, respected and valued regardless of social or economic status.
The Accord Party candidate said his proposed administration would be based on consultation, accountability, inclusion and collective responsibility.
“I will not come to government believing that I have all the answers. I will come ready to listen, ready to learn, ready to serve and ready to work with you,” he said.
Gashash said communities would participate in identifying problems, designing solutions, setting development priorities and monitoring the implementation of government programmes.
He stressed that his ambition was not merely to construct physical infrastructure but also to build stronger and more empowered communities capable of participating meaningfully in governance.
“I want to leave behind not just projects, but a people who can say: ‘We were heard. We participated. We helped build this Kano,’” he said.
The governorship candidate appealed to the people of Kano to see the 2027 election as an opportunity to determine the kind of government they want and to participate actively in shaping the state’s future.
“Kano belongs to all of us. Its future belongs to all of us. And together, we will build it,” he said.
Gashash concluded his message with his campaign slogan: “When the weakest smile, Kano wins.”
